Firefighters and Paramedics from the Norwood Park Fire Department recently
visited Union Ridge School as part of fire safety week. The firefighters on the truck
spoke briefly to the children regarding fire prevention and safety. They also put on
their turnout gear as they explained its function and allowed the children to hear the
various sounds that are produced once the firefighter’s air pack is in use. The

firefighters then took the children around the fire engine and Tower Ladder. They
explained some of its features and even allowed the children to briefly pass through
the back of the ambulance.
The first graders were very enthusiastic about meeting Norwood Park’s bravest.
They had recently visited Safety Town last week and were able to make valuable
connections about fire safety.
