Our 8th grade Italian field trip to Casa Italia was a truly enriching experience! On October 23rd, Prof. Candeloro, the Library Curator, and dedicated volunteers from the Italian Cultural Center warmly welcomed our students. The visit included three main exhibits: Italians in Chicago, Art Exhibits, and Vatican Exhibits. Prof. Candeloro provided an engaging historical overview of the Italian Cultural Center, tracing its journey from its founding to the present. He then guided us through the exhibits, highlighting artworks and artifacts generously donated by Italian-American artists and families.
Exploring the history of Italian-American immigration offered students a deeper understanding of Italian culture and language. By uncovering the contributions and stories of Italian immigrants, students not only enhanced their Italian studies but also found meaningful connections to their social studies curriculum, linking historical themes with real-life experiences.
Our students truly enjoyed this interactive museum visit, enriched by direct engagement with experts and members of the Italian heritage community. Celebrating Italian Heritage Month in such a dynamic way brought history vividly to life, creating an unforgettable and impactful learning experience.
