7th and 8th grade students were randomly placed into “Sweet Sixteen” teams to construct chairs out of newspapers. Each group was given a roll of masking tape and a stack of newspapers. The chairs needed to have a back and be strong enough to hold a student from each team for 5 seconds. It was amazing to watch the middle schoolers collaborate and problem-solve to build structures sturdy enough to support human beings. The teens definitely demonstrated creativity, ingenuity, and overall successful teamwork skills.
