The annual 6th Grade Outdoor Education trip took place this past May 10, 11, and 12. Once again it was a huge success! The kids had an amazing time. One student said "It was the most epic field trip I have ever been on!" Another student said "How can something be better than you expected when you already were expecting the best?!" Many of them said they wished they could stay for a few more days! These words express the impact of the trip that go beyond teaching classes in the outdoors. In addition to participating in core curriculum classes in a new environment, students stepped outside of their comfort zone and tried new things - whether it was a food they've never tasted, riding a horse, or sleeping away from home for the first time.
This year continued the well established Outdoor Ed traditions as students participated in academic endeavors that reached beyond the walls of the classroom. This once in a lifetime experience is guided and shaped by a dedicated team of teachers who continue to participate in the trip year after year. The students joy and excitement on and after the trip best express their gratitude for this unique experience. If you listen closely, you can hear them on the playground singing the songs they learned at the campfires, or laughing about games they played, or telling each other stories about their Outdoor Ed favorite class. If you get the chance, ask a 6th grader about it--they love to share the good times they had!
