Girl Scouts Lend a Hand

Girl Scouts Lend a Hand

Recently, our Union Ridge Girl Scout Brownies got involved with a wonderful organization called "Project Baby Blankets." After working hard and selling cookies for the 2017 season, the girls decided to donate some of their hard earned cookie money. They gave $300 to Mrs. Musial to help out with her wonderful work. "I am so proud of the girls," said Mrs. Jenkinson-Cope, another Union Ridge teacher and a Leader of the troop. "They are really excited and can't wait until we can do more." The troop plans to continue support through fundraising, learning to crochet, and then donating those items. Emma, one of the Brownies told some of her fellow scouts, "Helping out Mr. and Mrs. Musial and the little babies makes me feel good."  Lexi, another member of the troop, can already crochet and said that she will help teach the others so that we can help out more AND earn our crocheting patches too!
Project Baby Blankets, Inc. was founded, is financed, and is run by our very own teacher Mrs. Musial and her husband. They organize people from all around the country (and some abroad too!) in knitting and crocheting booties, blankets, and hats for premature babies. They currently service babies born at 17 area hospitals. These pieces of clothing help to provide warmth and comfort to the babies while in the NICU. The babies get to take the items home with them. "It is a way of telling these families that they are not alone. It is something that my husband and I started doing over 8 years ago and it has grown more than I ever expected. We hope that it will continue to grow into an international effort," remarked Mrs. Musial.
