We are proud to announce, Daniel Hardy, a sixth grader at Union Ridge School, was awarded a trophy for Illinois State Champion in the American Scholastic Challenge 2017! Daniel earned the highest score in Illinois for the American Scholastic Achievement League competition, quite an achievement! This year’s contest had approximately 5000 very knowledgeable sixth grade students taking part.
The Scholastic Challenge is used as a strong motivational tool that stimulates students' quest for knowledge, and provides them with the joy and satisfaction of meeting new academic challenges. The contest consisted of 100 challenging, computer-generated, enrichment questions, which allowed students to individually demonstrate a variety of problem-solving skills and knowledge in six sections. The sections include: General Knowledge, Language & Literature, Geography, History, Science, and Mathematics. The questions are not related to a specific curriculum, but are selected to reflect the general knowledge and educational levels expected of sixth or eighth grade students. The contest scores are computer generated at the completion of each school's one hour session. Scores are used to identify the school, state, & national champions. Union Ridge students in sixth and eighth grade, participate each year.
