1st and 8th grade holiday tradition at Union Ridge

A holiday tradition continued this school year between Mrs. Maciuba's first grade class and Mrs. Grzeskiewicz's eighth grade language arts class.  The first graders wrote sweet letters to Santa by themselves.  They included personal details about themselves, like their name, age, and school. First grade students also let Santa know if they we naughty, nice, or sometimes both!  Santa was asked many interesting questions such as:
- How do you get the reindeer to fly?
- What's your favorite cookie?
- Have you ever been stuck in a chimney?
- How do your elves make toys so quickly?
- Some little angels even asked for Santa to bring special gifts to specific people who are dear to them.
Mrs. Grzeskiewicz has a magical connection to the North Pole, so she sent the letters to Santa for the first graders. Once Santa finished writing his responses, the letters were sent back to Union Ridge School, directly from his workshop! Then, the spirited eighth graders were each paired up with a cute first grader to help read Santa’s letters.  The 8th graders were delighted to share in the holiday joy and witness the smiles and wonder of their first grade buddies. Also, the eighth graders made holiday gift bags for the first graders filled with pencils, stickers, and jingle bell bracelets. The older students loved giving to the little ones! The festive hour ended with watching the classic cartoon “Frosty the Snowman”.  Everyone became a child for just a moment, and it was perfect!
