As part of building background knowledge for the novel, Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls, Mrs. D.’s and Mrs. Wilk’s students researched mountain lions and raccoons. Working in groups, half of the class researched mountain lions and the other half researched raccoons. Students had specific information to find following criteria given on a graphic organizer. Using the program Weebly on their iPads, the student groups created interactive websites with all the information required to “teach” about their animal. Students then shared the websites with classmates to “learn” about each other’s animals.
